What is Harvard Referencing Style?

Harvard referencing style is considered as one of the most used and often chosen referencing style by students and universities to cite information in their academic papers, assignments, theses, dissertations etc. This referencing style helps to support the researcher’s arguments and gives them a factual base.

Like other referencing styles, this referencing style also protects the researcher against plagiarism charges. This also helps the researcher to locate and refer to the material they have consulted in prior for drafting the research work. Harvard referencing style also conveys to the reader that the researcher has done ample background study before drafting the research work.

There are two types of citations included in the Harvard referencing style:
1) In text Citations
2) Reference Lists
Intext citations are used whenever the researcher is directly quoting or paraphrasing a source.
Reference Lists are put at the end of the research work as separate section and this section displays full citation for sources used in the research.
